Co-Pilot

Recently, this past year, I’ve been playing around with some of the Large Language Models that are out there on the market, particularly ChatGPT and Google Gemini. And I must say that I am very impressed with the fast development of AI.
It feels like this growth and development has compounded extraordinarily simply over the past 2 to 3 years. I think as of now, AI can be used as a good complement to what we are doing. We are a far cry away from AI being able to replace us completely in everything that we do. Some skills that are still necessary for us mere mortals include communication, empathy, and critical thinking.
Sometimes, I play with ChatGPT and I still notice some errors in their answers particularly when it comes to market research. They are very extensive in their answers and I am very happy to be able to use them. But like pretty much everything else, they’re not the end all be all and the solution to everything.
I must say, though, that I am excited about the future and what AI can bring to the table. For example, self-driving car companies like Waymo have been taking off over the past few years as well. And Tesla is looking into robotaxis and humanoid robots as the next generation products to promote.
Some of these products that companies are churning out are simply mind-boggling and amazing beyond belief. And it looks like there will be more to come over the next 3 to 5 years. I can only imagine what AGI (artificial general intelligence) will look like and when it will come to pass.
It makes me realize that there are so many people out there in the world who are great at what they do and provide a limitless future for the world. The ultimate vision is a utopia of sorts, where we can find cures for cancer, improve productivity among the workforce, and lead to greater harmony across geopolitical spectrums. We can figure out these mind-bending problems with the help of AI, which can lead to a much improved world.
Of course, there is the flip side and possibility of AI dominating us if we don’t put in the necessary guardrails to give it some limitations (like we see in the movies). But in my opinion, the rewards for AI greatly outweigh the risks.
I am not a technology expert, nor am I a coding expert. I am simply one person with my own flawed views of the world. And I realize that I depend on so many people out there (so many strangers in fact) to make this future utopian vision a reality. These technology whiz kids and CEO’s are truly impacting the world hopefully for the better.
I’m thankful that there are so many people with varying beliefs on where AI is headed, which naturally gives checks and balances on each other, so that no one party gathers too much power. I think it’s important that there are competing companies fighting over different visions of what the future of AI can hold.
You have Tesla focusing on humanoid robots. You have Meta focusing on a multi-verse of sorts. And you have Microsoft, Amazon, and Google building out data centers and dominating the fields of cloud computing. It makes me feel like the USA is in good hands with these corporations continuously trying to innovate and come out with the best product for the mass market.
No one in essence knows where the future of AI will hold. Personally, I would be really happy if there are competent humanoid robots out there that can help with home care, especially as my parents age. Whether that can be reality remains to be seen. But it looks like the applications for AI can be endless. And so, I remain bullish on the tech scene within the USA and rely on many of the corporate workers to make the utopian vision a reality.
As of now, AI is simply a competent co-pilot. But it has grown by leaps and bounds over these past ten years. I use ChatGPT and Google Gemini to create strategy plans for my business, to learn more about the intricacies of economics, and ask mundane things too like how to live a happy life.
I don’t follow their advice to a tee, but I do take it into account. So no, the days of AI replacing us and enslaving us is a long way away. In the best-case scenario, we can work together with AI to solve problems that we can only dream about solving.
I have faith in the people out there that are working towards developing out AI and I hope I can play a small role in this area as well, whether it be investing in some of the companies out there or providing my limited skill set for their use.
Human beings do need help in this complicated world, and I think AI presents an amazing opportunity to grasp to help us compound our productivity to the outer limits. Who knows what problems we could solve. Who knows what the future may hold. And I think this tool can revolutionize the world for the better.
